Configuring a Huawei Honor phone with Chinese firmware to ensure all notifications are received

One of the main issues faced when using a device with a firmware intended for the Chinese market is their propensity to kill background applications at every opportunity. Whilst this may be the preferred option in China, presumably due to the lack of a unified app store and rogue apps consuming battery and data, it is a major annoyance for Western users who end up missing vital notifications due to apps and services being killed in the background.

During the course of creating a Custom ROM for the Honor Note 8, I have compiled a list of those settings required to prevent background tasks from being killed & to generally make the phone behave more like Stock Android.
